Behind
The Bassist
In his native of Oslo, Norway, Eivind Opsvik played with a diverse array
of jazz/experimental groups through the 1990s performing at festivals,
clubs and touring all over Europe. In 1998 he moved to New York to become
part of that rich music scene and has found himself performing and recording
with the likes of Bill Frisell, Marc Copland, Tony Malaby, Dave Binney
and Bill McHenry. Opsvik’s music is a combination of two worlds:
the European and the New York jazz scene. European melody and space combined
with the spirit and beats of New York. Inspiration for him comes from
a wide array of different styles and epochs and his emphasis has been
more on getting the right energy and vibe and less on complexity and intellectuality.
